What if you have an emergency in China?

Hopefully, you won't want to deal with emergency any time, especially in a foreign country whose people speak the language that sounds like Mars Words. However, sometimes, you have to. Don't started me on what I coped with in America~ Trust me, I know how hard it is.

Whatever, that's why I composed this post as and Emergency Guidline!

I really hope that you won't have to deal with an emergency while you're in China. However, if you do find yourself in a bad situation, it is important to know what to do.

"In China the organization that is responsible for public safety is the Public Security Bureau (PSB). There are usually several PSB locations within a city district. If you feel you are in danger or need to call for help, you can reach the PSB by dialing 110 on any phone in China.

If you lose your passport, you should report the lost passport as soon as possible to your nearest Public Security Bureau and to your embassy or consulate in China. In order to get a new Chinese visa, a Police report about the loss/theft will be required".

I know all of you guys know what 911 is, but do you know what Chinese 911 is?

Below are some emergency phone numbers that you should make note of:

110 for the police (same function as 911)

119 in case of fire or

120 for an ambulance

If you lose your credit cards or travelers checks, call the issuers immediately. There is usually an international number on the backside of your credit card that you can dial collect 24 hours a day from anywhere outside your home country.

Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology

Hey guys! I bet you've already known a lot about Washburn University, today I'd like to introduce my university in China - Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology

I learn Chinese as the Second Language as my first major in this university,however, this university is not famous at this major. In recent years, professors of the university have shouldered more than 600 research programs in different areas, including 113 state programs and 98 provincial ones. A total of 24 scientific and technological rewards have been awarded to the university, of which one is the first prize at state level and four are first prize at provincial level. In addition, international rewards like Award of Excellence of Scientific Achievement of SPIE, WMO NORBERT GERBIER-MUMM Award and Buchan Award of British Royal Meteorological Academy are also received".

Spring Festival

If you are interested in how Chinese people celebrate their biggest festival which has prolonged history, you should come and see Spring Festival,the Chinese New Year.

The Spring Festival is the time to go back to your family and get together with all your family members no matter how busy or far you are. As for myself, every year I go back to home by train since I went to college, after 44 hours, with 4000 kilometers trip, I'm at home.

During the Spring Festival, there are couple things you won't miss: making and eating dumplings with family at the New Year's Eve, enjoying the fire flower at the same time, and watching the Spring Festival Gala from the CCTV.Burning fireworks was once the most typical custom on the Spring Festival. People thought the spluttering sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, such an activity was completely or partially forbidden in big cities once the government took security, noise and pollution factors into consideration. As a replacement, some buy tapes with firecracker sounds to listen to, some break little balloons to get the sound too, while others buy firecracker handicrafts to hang in the living room.

Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First they extend greetings to their parents. Then each child will get money as a New Year gift, wrapped up in red paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, for breakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new". Also, the shape of the dumpling is like gold ingot from ancient China. So people eat them and wish for money and treasure.



According to history records, the Spring Festival derives from god and ancestor worships in the Shang dynasty. Nowadays, this superstitious meaning has faded away and is replaced with a symbol of unification, happiness and hope.

When to go
Actually, when to go depends on where you go. China is so big that it contains almost all kinds of climate on the earth. As China is a vast country with wide-ranging climatic conditions, so a decision about the best time to visit should be based on the regions you plan to tour and the kind of weather you enjoy.
It's really cold at north during the winter, and extremely hot at south as well. Before deciding when to take a tour, it is worth checking carefully the China weather conditions of each city on the itinerary. Needless to say that the most attractive seasons to visit are also the most crowded. Regardless of the time of the year, a visitor will always be rewarded with charming scenery throughout China.

How to save money
Travel in China is affordable compared with other places in the world. Prices are much cheaper than in most western countries, for everything from meals to train or plane tickets.Public transportation costs are reasonable in China and easily affordable. No doubt buses are the most economical public vehicle. However, traveling by metro, taxi or hiring a private driver can make your tour more comfortable and more efficient.
I was really unaccustomed about the public transportation in Topeka at beginning. The city would be died if the buses come every half or one hour in China, but it's how things work in Topeka.You can't image how convenient the Chinese public transportation is.
The round-trip plane tickets may be the biggest expense.

What to pack
From my experience of international traveling between U.S. and China, I want to tell you: packing as less as possible. Trust me, you can find almost every common commodity in Chinese supermarket unless you have some special requirement or you go to some undeveloped area.


Packing tips

•Roll your clothes instead of folding them or use vacuum bags. In this way you will save a lot of space and provide extra protection for your clothing.
•Put the items your will use regularly at the top
•Bring several plastic bags with you. You will find many uses for them during your trip.
•Remember the rules on carrying liquids; you may have to remove them at your point of departure!

Ancient Chinese Drama

Director, scriptwriter, and actress of the College Ancient Chinese Drama Show

​I adapted one of the most famous ancient Chinese drama show - Diao Feng Yue when I was a sophomore, and performed it with my friends at the College Ancient Chinese Drama Show held by my Chinese Literacy professor. This show was published on our school newspaper. 

The original story was composed at hundreds years ago by a famous dramatist. I was so loved this ancient costume that I couldn't help adapting it to a college drama show and performed with my classmates. This story talk about an rich young good-looking man who fell in love with his maid, he proposed to her and got her vow, and they had really sweet time at the beginning. However, the young, from deep down, looked forward to the life with higher social status. He pursued the other rich elegant girl whose father was a government official in high rank. He kept two relationship and enjoyed two girl's love, eventually, he abandoned his maid and was going to marry the rich girl. The maid was despaired and hopeless, eventually, she disclosed who the young man really was and committed suicide in front all guests.
